Wounded Knee, change of plans

Saturday October 4th
It was such a nice day, I just wanted to fill the morning with running. It was only a week after my tough 1/2 marathon. I went out on a trail/road run. It was very hilly but I walked the big hills and ran the smaller one. After about 12K as I started up the biggest hill, I felt some pain in my right knee and hip similar to pain I have felt in the past so I wasn't too worried. I finished the run and felt very tired but I still felt good.
Monday October 6th
I went out to run a 10K tempo run. My first 3K of any run is quite hilly and I use it to warm up. I felt a few twinges in my knee during this period. I picked up the pace and within the next 2K I started run/walk with each run portion getting shorter. I had already turned for home by this time and switched to walking only. My knee didn't really hurt when I was walking but I couldn't take 2 running strides without pain.

Friday October 10th
After 4 days off running, I decided to do a semi-long run. I went in the afternoon along the Niagara River. The trees look amazing this time of year. I was taking my time but after a few KM's I started to feel some pressure on that knee. with either 'stupid stubbornness' or 'naive optimism' I kept running and finished about 10K and walked the last 4K back to my van.

I think what might be best is to rest my knee for at least a full week and then maybe go back to 5K and up to 10K runs. My November 2nd 1/2 marathon is not going to happen. I want to continue my pursuit towards a spring marathon and the 30K in March. They only way this will Niagara river looking at the U.S.A.

happen is if I back it way down to let my knee heal. I am pretty sure it is 'runner's knee' and I also have a reoccurring ITB problem. I am not as worried about the ITB, it doesn't seem to be a big problem.

While I am "resting, icing, compressing, and elevating" my knee, I will make sure I get plenty of walking in. It doesn't hurt at all when I walk.

I may run the 5K or 10K on November 1st at the Road2Hope in Hamilton. I will see how I feel. I also am signed up for an 8K on the 8th.

The Mississauga Marathon is 30 weeks away. This will give me some time for some easy weeks before the mileage ramps up again.

That is where things stand right now, so it is a who knows, time will tell kinda thing.

Sorry bout the knee friend. Better safe than sorry. I like the running video. I wish more would put them on their blogs.
