Not running 'sucks'

It has been two weeks since I had a normal weekly run. It will be another two before I try to get back out there and lightly. There are a few races I would like to try before the 1/2 marathon in Grimsby in February but first I have to find out if my knee will feel OK. This injury is my first real challenge so I don't know what to expect. My weight is starting to be an issue because it is hard to reel in my eating with the lack of exercise. I am getting out to walk but it not the same.

I started doing some leg exercises and crunches. I am hoping that this will help when I get back out there.

I am getting a elliptical/bike for Christmas so if it a nasty winter I will still get some cardio done. I like "Grand Openings". A new Canadian Tire opened in Welland so they had a great sale. Regular price on this was $299.99 on sale for $134.99. This might help save the pounding on my knee and other aging joints.

Besides that elusive goal of 42.2KM, I really want to increase my trail racing next year. There are a couple of races close by, one is a 1/2 marathon another is a tough 10K in Short Hills Provincial Park. Within a couple of hours there is the 5 Peaks trail running series.

I am keeping a positive outlook and through smart training and a little luck I will get these things done and have fun while I do them.

Good that you are keeping positive and still trying to exercise. I know that my weight spiked a bit during my injury earlier in the yr.
Hope that knee gets feeling better.

Great attitude - I too am unfortunately no stranger to running injuries that plague us older guys. Good that you are focused on these future events.

Ciao Marty,
the sentence "che dite, un cornetto in valigia, ci sta?" means the following:
As I noticed you turned 43 without running your first marathon I said that this was not of good omen for us when we left to run the NYCM: we had the same objective but you were not able to reach it due to some unlucky situations. To be supersticious I said there was the need to bring a talisman with us and to put it into our luggage (valigia). Do you know what's the most used talisman in Italy? It's a red horn-shaped amulet (cornetto), very typical from the region where Naples is.
Is this explanation clear enough or weren't you able to understand my poor english?
