"The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are,
first, hard work;
second, stick-to-itiveness;
third, common sense." - Thomas Edison

Man, this quote is so true. This winter I didn't stick yo these essentials and I am paying for it now. In the fall I broke the third essential. I got stupid, over did it and hurt myself. Since the time that injury healed I have been following the first essential, because every run seems to be hard work. I have been forcing myself to follow the third essential, because every time I push too hard my body quickly reminds me that it is not indestructible. Right now and for the past few months, I can't find where the second essential is. I have to force myself out the door, almost every run. I go crazy when I am not out there, but at the same time when it is time to get my butt out there, I have a million reasons not to go. When I am out running, I am not loving it, I am liking it. I need to find that passion again. I know I need patience. I really want to run distance again, but I need to build slowly and I know these shorter distances are part of my lacking passion.
On the weight front - up two, down two. I still have gotten the eating under control. I figure if I can get out more, I will eat better, lose some weight and the running will get better.
I know I repeat some things from post to post, but I figure if I say it enough, maybe I will listen.
Keep fighting.

Hey Bud: That reminds me of the year that I worked on the Drag Car.
Every time we made a little change because we thought that we might get beat... we got beat.
All we had to do was stick to the method that worked.
Anyways, I'm glad you stopped by to see my Dad. He really enjoyed it and I really appreciated it. I'm having deja vu right now. okay it's gone now.
See you soon
Steve
p.s. Remember Icehouse?
Keep fighting.. 'nuff said....
Slow and steady!
Keep up the good work.
Icehouse was a band from Auatralia. We were at the Bear Road Motel in Syracuse watching MTV and they were showing a gig as a 1 hour special called "This is Icehouse" We thought they were great. 5 years later they had one hit in North America then faded away. Just one of those moments that stays with me.
Just the fact that you're still at it, trying, and setting goals, means a lot. I forget where I read it, but I like the analogy that training is like an upward spiral, always looping round and round, and every setback is followed by a surge ...
Sry I missed your post. I think now that the weather is getting warmer and the sun is out more that you will get the motivation that you need.
Another thing that you should do for motivation is sign up for a race then you'll be forced to get out there and run. Plan a vacation around a race or have a race that is close to a destination.
Are you healed yet?
Getting back on the bike is the hardest thing to do.
Maybe even joining a gym in the offseason to keep the winter blahs from happening.
